Psychology Associate of Arts

My Academic Plans (MAPs) are designed by faculty and displayed in a semester format showing the fastest path to finishing your certificate or degree. While this is the ideal, you can take courses as your schedule permits. Contact an academic advisor regarding your scheduling needs.

This MAP is appropriate for transfer to Colorado public institutions with the exception of Colorado State University – Fort Collins. Students intending to complete an Associate of Science degree in Psychology and transfer to University of Colorado – Denver should refer to the MAP for the Associate of Science degree in Psychology. Students intending to transfer to Colorado State University – Fort Collins should contact an advisor.

In most cases, the courses you need are available on your selected campus. However, there may be times to complete courses online or travel to another FRCC campus. Location availability is indicated at the time of registration.

Program Description

The psychology program provides quality education in the study of behavior and mental processes through both the traditional classroom setting and online learning environments.

This program might be for you if:

- You are interested in learning more about the way the mind works and the science behind our everyday thoughts.

- You would like to gain new techniques in order to organize your own life through personal growth and insight.

- You often ask questions about human behavior or even the actions and responses of animals.

There are thousands of questions that all of us ask in our everyday lives and psychology is the field that organizes what science has discovered in an attempt to answer them all! Just as you might take a course to improve computer skills, psychology classes allow you to improve a variety of other skills, such as understanding research, human development, human relations, parenting, stress management, and more.

Psychology is the science of human behavior and mental processes that affect mental and physical health. A.A. coursework covers the science and mathematics subjects needed to transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, with the designation in psychology you will be taking a variety of psychology courses (5) that will transfer over to most four year institutions in Colorado.

Career Opportunities:

While the Bachelor’s degree in psychology could be useful in a number of careers, professional psychologists must continue to graduate study. Employment opportunities with a Doctorate or a Masters’ degree include teaching or counseling in a wide variety of settings. All four year state schools in Colorado offer an AA in psychology. You can find the information about these schools here: College in Colorado.

A degree in Psychology opens the door to careers in:

- School Counseling
- Psychiatrist/Psychologist
- Treatment Facility for Youth/Adults
- Private Counseling Practice
