Program Description

Geography is unique in bridging the social sciences and the natural sciences. There are two main branches of geography: human geography and physical geography. Human geography is concerned with the spatial aspects and interrelationships of human existence. Study in human geography includes exploration of cultures, societies, economies, and populations. Physical geographers study patterns of the natural world. Fields within physical geography include geomorphology, hydrology, ecology, and climatology. Geographers use many tools and techniques in their work that are increasingly important for understanding our complex world. A.A. coursework in geography covers the social science, science, and mathematics subjects needed to transfer to a four-year institution. Geography is a discipline that is rich in possibilities. Geographers pursue rewarding careers in education, research, business, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
