My Academic Plans (MAPs) are designed by faculty and displayed in a semester format showing the fastest path to finishing your certificate or degree. While this is the ideal, you can take courses as your schedule permits. Contact an academic advisor regarding your scheduling needs.
In most cases, the courses you need are available on your selected campus. However, there may be times to complete courses online or travel to another FRCC campus. Location availability is indicated at the time of registration.
My Academic Plan
Program Description
Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences. A central concern of anthropologists is the application of knowledge to the solution of human problems. Historically, anthropologists in the United States have been trained in one of four areas: sociocultural anthropology, biological/physical anthropology, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology.
Career Opportunities
Jobs for anthropologists can be found in corporations, government, educational institutions, resource management, and non-profit organizations. Today, there are four main career paths for anthropology:
- Academic jobs: teaching and research oriented jobs in colleges and universities
- Corporate careers: helping international corporations understand the cultural complexities of their workforces and their customer bases
- Non-profit and/or environmental resource management: providing social services and/or providing information to inform resource and cultural preservation decisions
- Government applications: from social service branches of the government to resource protection agencies (the park service, forest service, etc.), to the military, anthropologists inform policies and programs.
Academic and corporate careers frequently require an MA or higher degree, while corporate, nonprofit, resource management, and government applications are available to those with Bachelor’s degrees or higher.
More options:
- A career in museum, cultural studies or diversity program
- Participate in field studies in archaeology
