My Academic Plan

My Academic Plans (MAPs) are designed by faculty and displayed in a semester format showing the fastest path to finishing your certificate or degree. While this is the ideal, you can take courses as your schedule permits. Contact an academic advisor regarding your scheduling needs.

In most cases, the courses you need are available on your selected campus. However, there may be times to complete courses online or travel to another FRCC campus. Location availability is indicated at the time of registration.

Program Description

The mission of the Automotive Technology program is to prepare students with a skill level sufficient for entry level positions/careers in the automotive repair industry. Students demonstrate the ability to meet recognized automotive industry standards upon completion of the program.

This degree program contains one or more embedded certificates which will be automatically awarded when the certificate requirements are completed.

Program Learning Outcomes

As a result of the completion of the Automotive Program students will be able to:

- Test, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, chemical, and electronic equipment found in today's automobiles

- Demonstrate required shop and personal safety during shop/lab activities

- Demonstrate proper use and cleaning of tools and equipment

- Prepare vehicles for service

- Prepare vehicles for the customer

- Comply with workplace policies and laws

- Communicate (written and verbal) effectively with customers and coworkers

- Demonstrate the use of scientific, technical, engineering and mathematics principles and reasoning to accomplish assigned tasks

- Demonstrate appropriate work-ethic traits through personal conduct and effective teamwork

- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by analyzing and resolving problems encountered in the field

Career Opportunities

Graduates are finding excellent employment opportunities as technicians, sales associates, service writers, and parts staff. These opportunities exist in dealerships, independent service facilities, machine shops and other automotive businesses.
