My Academic Plans (MAPs) are designed by faculty to better guide you in retention and completion. It is highly encouraged that you complete courses in the recommended order provided below in the notes section. You should work with an academic advisor to adjust your plan based on your scheduling needs.
My Academic Plan
Program Mission & Description
The Chemistry program provides quality education in the study of chemical theories and applications through the traditional classroom setting with some courses offered in hybrid or online learning environments.
This program might be for you if you:
- enjoy searching for the answer to why
- enjoy collecting and analyzing information (data)
- find science topics in the news interesting and would like to learn more
- are comfortable with applying your mathematical skills
There are thousands of questions and concerns raised everyday about our health, technology, and environment. Chemistry touches on these. Just as you might take a course to improve computer skills, chemistry classes allow you to better understand research and the basics behind these topics.
A.S. coursework covers the science and mathematics subjects needed to transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, with the designation in chemistry you will be taking chemistry courses (4) that will transfer over to most four-year institutions in Colorado with junior status.

Getting into the Program
Application Process and Admission Requirements
Students who are ready to start the DWD program have taken an introductory chemistry course (which may be at a rigorous high school level) and have completed college algebra in their educational background. Students who have not completed these courses, will need to take additional prerequisite courses which will not count for credit for the DWD and will add to the 60 credits of course work.
