Program Description

This certificate is available to students currently enrolled in the Veterinary Technician Program and is designed to meet the demands of the biomedical research community for qualified personnel in the care and management of laboratory animals. Technicians certified in Laboratory Animal Technology are central to the integrity of biomedical research, assuring a high standard of humane care for research animals. Required Courses: Students must complete ALL of the requirements for the AAS Degree in Veterinary Technology plus the following courses to complete this certificate.

Admission Requirements:
To enter the program, students must meet the following admission requirements:
1. Completion of a high school diploma or GED
2. Achievement of indicated assessment scores or completion of preparatory course work.
3. Completion or concurrent enrollment of BIO 105 or BIO 111 with a grade of "C" or better (no more than seven years old)
4. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in VET 102 Veterinary Medical Terminology (1 credit), with a grade of "C" or better.
5. Prospective students must attend an information meeting the first Thursday of every month at the Larimer Campus from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. See our website for current meeting location.
6. Completion of a Basic Laboratory Animal Care intent to enroll application form available at the Larimer Campus.

FRCC’s Veterinary Technology Program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technical Education and Activities.

First Semester

Courses should be completed in the order listed below. If you are unable to complete the entire semester list, complete as many courses in this sequence as your schedule allows. Students must complete ALL of the requirements for the AAS Degree in Veterinary Technology plus the following courses to complete this certificate:
