Admission Requirements

Students must:
- Complete assessment testing. ACT English of 18 or higher or SAT verbal score 440 or higher. Students who place into ENG 121 (or above) and MAT 107 (or above) may begin taking this program of study.
- Complete all degree and/or certificate courses with a grade of "C" or better.
- Complete online background check at Certified Background as directed by Program Director. See http://cccs.castlebranch.com
- Possess the ability to sufficiently speak and understand English and to comprehend verbal communication of English speaking clients.

What You Will Learn

Program Learning Outcomes

For the degree and all certificates all students will learn:
• Understand the anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology and drug therapy of major body systems
• Legal aspects of medical records
• Establish a personal and professional code of ethics
• Develop a basic understanding of MS Office
• Understand the Electronic Health Record
• A knowledge of medical terminology including abbreviations and use in medical record

Medical Office and Billing Specialist AAS degree:
• Advanced understanding of accounting and business practices
• Healthcare service and coding

Career Opportunities

The Medical Office and Billing Specialist Program is a certificate or AAS (Associate of Applied Science) program. Employment is found in a wide variety of healthcare facilities. Medical Office and Billing Specialists are qualified to perform an array of administrative duties. These skills are vital to clinic success and include maintaining medical records, use of electronic health software, patient admissions, medical billing and coding, medical financial management, healthcare customer service and logistics.
