Women and Gender Studies Associate of Arts

Program Description

This program is designed for students wanting to earn an Associate of Arts degree (AA) by completing their first two years at Front Range Community College, and plan to transfer to the University of Colorado, Denver to earn an Integrated Studies degree (BA). The field of Women and Gender Studies, including all WST courses offered at our institution, explores the history of women in politics, law, religion, social movements, and society, paying particular attention to systems of oppression and power. Students learn to think deeply, communicate thoughtfully, work together, and act in ways that positively impact our communities and the world. Career paths for Women and Gender Studies majors include social work, the nonprofit sector, government, international relations, education, the criminal legal system, and others.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:
 1.  Identify and describe important figures in the field of women and gender studies
 2.  Define systems of privilege and oppression, including patriarchal and racialized structures
 3.  Use effective communication practices to convey complex information
 4.  Identify and explain effective courses of action to elevate the rights of women, girls, and other minoritized populations
 5.  Demonstrate responsiveness to diverse populations, regardless of ability, race, place, income, language, culture, religion, and gender
 6.  Cultivate ethical practices that serve underrepresented populations
 7.  Advocate for equality, diversity, and human rights
