Economics Associate of Arts

Program Description

This program is designed for students wanting to complete the first two years of a Bachelor's degree at the community college and transfer to a university to complete a BA in Economics. Economic trends and effects of political and social change are explored. Careers often require a master's degree. The Associate of Arts Degree in Economics prepares students to transfer as a junior to a four-year Colorado institution. A BS degree in Economics prepares students for advanced degrees, teaching careers, or employment. Economic analysis skills are needed in many careers. Students will be prepared to work in banking, finance, insurance, investment, and the corporate world.

Important Program Notes:

If you take more credits in Mathematics and Science than are listed, it will reduce the 18 credits of electives needed

Students intending to transfer to Adams State University, Metropolitan State University of Denver, or the University of Northern Colorado may take College Algebra or Finite Mathematics instead of Calculus I.

For Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, University of Denver, and Western Colorado University, Calculus I (MAT 2410) is required for this degree.

If you are Calculus ready, you should complete your Calculus requirement as soon as possible. The Prerequisite for Calculus can be satisfied with either successful completion of College Trigonometry (MAT 1420) or Pre-Calculus (MAT 1440). Both College Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus require the Prerequisite of College Algebra (MAT 1340) to be successfully completed prior to enrolling. These courses are listed as recommendations but must be completed unless you satisfy the Prerequisites with appropriate placement. Please see an advisor for more information.

You must complete a minimum of 60 credits to complete this degree. If receiving financial aid, you should only take courses and credits as required for this degree. Check with your Academic Advisor to monitor your completion progress.
