Program Description

This program is designed for students wanting to complete a two-year AAS Degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design and enter the workforce. Students explore all facets of CAD technician skills, techniques and software applications. With this CAD degree students will be prepared to enter the workforce as skilled CAD technicians. Students will graduate with advanced CAD skills by training on the most current CAD software. Students complete 2D and 3D projects with a career emphasis on the unique needs of small- to mid-sized companies seeking employees with advanced and specialized computer-aided drafting skills. Students may complete a Basic CAD certificate, enter the workforce, and then return at any time to upgrade specific skills while pursuing advanced certificate offerings or an AAS degree.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
 1.  Interpret industry specific working/construction drawings/documents
 2.  Develop template drawings using standard drawing procedures
 3.  Create and modify 2D drawings using industry specific CAD software
 4.  Create and modify 3D drawings/models using industry specific CAD software
 5.  Produce and print a set of working/construction drawings/documents per industry standards using CAD software
 6.  Use advanced features of modeling with industry specific CAD software
 7.  Prepare 3D models/scenes using materials, lighting and animation per the industry specific CAD software
 8.  Design and create advanced 3D software generated models to produce a 3D printed model
 9.  Create 3D scanned models using 3D scanning technology
10.  Prepare a portfolio of industry specific drawings using CAD software programs

Students specializing in Architectural CAD should take AEC 1520. Students specializing in Mechanical CAD should take CAD 2456.

Important Program Notes:

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) AAS Degree Elective*: Any CAD course. You may also select up to three courses (11 credit maximum) from any AECEGGEGT, IND, or MGD course. As well as any of the following courses: GIS 1001, GIS 1010, GIS 1031, HLT 1030, HLT 2030, MAC 1000, MAC 1001, MAC 1002, MAC 1010, MAC 1020.

You must complete a minimum of 60 credits to complete this degree. If receiving financial aid, you should only take courses and credits as required for this degree. Check with your advisor to monitor your completion progress.
