Transportation Operations Certificate
Program Description
This program is designed for students wanting to complete a Transportation Operations Certificate and enter the work force. This certificate program gives students the basic knowledge and skills necessary to function as entry-level road maintenance employees. Students will learn the hazards they may be exposed to, and how to respond as they earn an OSHA-10 certification. They will also be introduced to road maintenance activities within state and local agencies, and explore career options and growth opportunities. Students who earn this certificate will have a nationally recognized industry certification, entry-level knowledge of the industry, and the opportunity to gain practical industry experience.

What You Will Learn
Upon completion of this program you will be able to:
1. Understand the importance of workplace health and safety in highway maintenance
2. Describe the duties and responsibilities of a highway maintenance manager in creating and maintaining a safety-focused work culture
3. Describe the types of safety hazards common to highway maintenance
4. Describe ways to recognize, assess, correct, and control safety hazards common to highway maintenance
5. Explain how to report and participate in workplace accident investigations
6. Describe the major activities of highway maintenance and operations
7. Describe the transportation assets a highway maintenance organization maintains
8. Explain how preventive maintenance treatments can extend the life of road surfaces and bridges
