Courses are displayed to show the fastest path to your certificate. The Clinical EMT Certificate includes the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate. While some courses included in Clinical EMT may be taken before completing the EMT Certification, certain courses such as EMS 1080 EMT Internship and EMS 1132 IV/IO for the EMT must be taken after receiving your State of Colorado EMT Certification. It is recommended that you complete the Clinical EMT Certificate courses as listed. Please contact your Program Director or Academic Advisor for further information.

Program Description

This program is designed for students wanting to complete a one-year (two semester) Certificate in Clinical Emergency Medical Technician and enter the workforce. Students explore EMT patient care skills. This certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in a variety of healthcare or emergency medical service environments such as fire departments, private ambulance or emergency room facilities. The certificate program consists of didactic and experiential teaching. The Clinical EMT is an Emergency Medical Technician that has expanded their knowledge and skills through professional development to better care for patients under the supervision of a doctor or nurse.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of the program you will be able to:
1.  Understand and apply emergency medical knowledge when caring for a patient as an entry-level EMT
2.  Assess a patient and use appropriate skills to treat and care for the sick or injured patient
3.  Demonstrate the personal and professional behaviors relative to the role of an entry-level EMT
4.  Integrate knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to function in the emergency health care system

Important Program Notes: 

A part-time format spanning two semesters may be offered. Check with your preferred campus for information.

Total credits may vary depending on elective courses you select. You must complete 24 credits to earn your Clinical EMT Certificate. You should not exceed 26 creditsYou may want to check with your advisor to monitor your completion progress.

*Clinical EMT certificate electives include: EMS 1080, HPR 2050, HPR 1039 or HPR 1040 or HPR 1045, BIO 1004, BIO 1006, BIO 1010, BIO 2101, BIO 2102.

If pursuing a paramedic certificate or degree, check the requirements of the program you might attend. Most paramedic programs in the community college system accept BIO 1006 for acceptance into the program. BIO 1010, BIO 2101, and BIO 2102 are suggested for degree seeking students.
